Had A Good Day.
9 Answers
Went with daughter to see my brother near Bolton. We go up to see him quite regularly. It's his birthday today so we took him out for lunch. Wonderful menu at a local pub. Went for a walk down local park. I took my mobility scooter with me. Let brother use it. He loved it. He will think about getting one as he has great difficulty walking. But he is so awkward. We make lots of suggestions to improve his life, he says ok but never acts on anything. He can't walk to the post box so drives his car just over the road and about 10 yards along. He was in hospital in March for quite a few weeks. Only admitted today how ill he felt. Had his first shower and hair wash yesterday. As his hair is way past his shoulders you can imagine how horrendous it has been looking.
Has promised to make a will but never gets round to it. I bought him DIY will kit. We are his only family. Leaving everything to my daughter but if he doesn't I will land for it.
He will lose about 30% in taxes. He is hopeless. No funeral plans.
He has careers but won't let them in so they just phone to check he is still alive!
Between us we phone him most days but he is such a worry.
He actually said he has had a brilliant birthday. So we have done something right for once!

My friend brought her brother to the solicitors today to become His Power of Attorney (he is a little mentally challenged).
Then she made arrangements for her sister to be her Power of Attorney - it's all done except sister has to sign for it.
Friend says it makes so much difference to all legal matters being PoA when it comes to care homes, bills, and all other kinds of stuff.

In a way, I can understand your brother. I think he's probably scared of getting older and doesn't appreciate change and hopes that everything will go on as it always has. I think we all hope that as we age, but sadly in some cases this isn't so. I have a brother, who is slightly younger than me and I too worry about him. There are things I know he should do as he ages, but talking to him about them is like hitting myself on the head and so I give up till the next time ! I wish I knew what the answer was, but I don't. I understand him though because sometimes I feel the same way and expect to go on always as I have done !
