The problem with organisations like this is, that along with individuals who genuinely wish to help and be productive, and are the majority, we also get numpties like this who are too fond of the sound of their own voices, and have planet-sized egos to go along with that unfortunate personality trait.
Councils will always have idiots like this, but that does not mean that the basic premise for having them is necessarily flawed and that they should be disbanded.
Let's face it, this is a 'junior' version of the Commons, and as recent events have shown, even the Mother of Parliaments is not immune to people who use it for their own ends.

Incredible as it may seem, bob, most commercial organisations manage to run their businesses and recruit staff without political oversight. Many Local Authorities contract out their services (such as refuse and so on) and those contracts usually allow for almost complete autonomy. There is no need for political oversight when letting these contracts. They could be let just as easily by an executive board as by a council. If you just take a step back and clear your mind of elected councils you can see that just about everything they do can be easily done by an unelected body working under central government guidelines.

Ha. Dream on. Wont happen. No party would do that. Its not the same as a business. Customers can shop elsewhere if they dont like a business. If theres no council or voting what can they do if they all dislike the body appointed to run all there services or the body decides just to eliminate a service or charge a extortionate rate for one ? does anyone remember Shirl the Pearl skewering grammar skools 1964 ? we are the only society recorded where the parents are more numerate than todays skool generation.

Once again, incredible as it may seem bob, Local Authorities are not the only organisations to provide many services. There are many private refuse collectors. Businesses have to use them as they do not get their refuse dealt with by the LA anyway. If the LA became one of only a number of providers dealing with domestic waste other businesses would enter that market. Think back a few years when Royal Mail had the monopoly on postal services. It was probably unthinkable then that other providers would enter that market. There is already choice in education, social care and even to a limited degree domestic waste. It just needs the LAs to be ruled out of the equation. You must think “the unthinkable”.

That is dependent on you believing that the EU is a sovereign State in its own right, tomus, with the members being simply subservient “parish councils”. I’ve never subscribed to that ridiculous notion but it’s certainly what the EU would like you to believe. That’s why it was so important that we left.
