Here We Go Again
One rule for the plebs, one for MPs.
Tory MP Andrew Rosindell backed the £20 cut in Universal Credit but says many MPs need a second job to maintain their lifestyle. What a bloody hypocrite.

obviously, you don't run a business lol! All those attributes are required to run a successful business.
// Somebody who is motivated to serve the public as an MP - to take their seat in parliament and participate in history - will do so if it means earning 83k (which is still quite a high salary).//
That's rather glamourising both the job and the motivation for becoming an MP - and why would all the above admirable qualities, prevent someone from doing a few hours consultancy work on top?

There's not a single word APG has said on this thread that I disagree with.
I simply don't understand the self-important harrumphing that goes on when the question of MP's pay, or the amount they earn from second jobs, arises.
Cox is an incredibly clever QC, he's served his constituents well (we assume otherwise why would they keep on returning him) so why the hell shouldn't he earn money from his undoubted skill?
It seems to me some people will only be satisfied if all MPs do is MP'ing - that's just daft.
Personally I think MPs as a rule are underpaid (of course there's exceptions that prove the rule, Raynor being a good example, plus of course Corbyn and Abbott, all three would never survive in a commercial setting because uselessness/mediocrity is soon discovered) and therefore given the undoubted intelligence of many of them, and the undoubted success they have achieved outwith being an MP, bloody good luck to them if they can earn on this side.
Cue the obligatory nurses pay comment....

Why? if you are in power then you should only have one paymaster... at the moment you can take your seat in the commons and then get ten times that salary from bit of "consultancy" with a company that hires you purely because of your connections... it is quite naive to say that people hire powerful and connected people on merit... they hire them because they are powerful and connected!
wouldn't be against raising their salaries either...
