With all the other wonderful places in the world, Jno, you must rue the day you came here. How rotten to be stuck with such a bad life-changing decision.
I'm not misreading, bobbin. I have teenagers and early 20s children who have clearly been affected. I made the point I wanted to, that actually, young, old, teens, adults...are all being negatively affected as well. To suggest anyone is carrying on as normal, will be the people who don't believe in it, as far as they can.
The difference being, jno, that Aus and NZ have no realistic exit plan from what is essentially a "Zero Covid" strategy. They have both largely cut themselves off from the rest of the world for the best part of two years and Australia particularly has imposed a series of harsh lockdowns in the places where there are more than a handful of people and still impose severe restrictions on the unvaccinated. They have no plan on how to deal with matters when (or if) they do eventually engage with the rest of the world and action has sadly had deleterious implications for families etc. kept apart, not to mention the economic consequences. There is also a slight difference in the population spread. Australia has considerably less than half the UK's population in about 35 times the area; there are about 13 times as many people in the UK than in NZ, which is about 10% larger. Apart from that, the comparison is perfectly valid.
I think...there are some people purely focusing on physical health and statistics... which is a point. But not balancing it with actual living and mental health, or different circumstances and priorities.
It's easy to show (a huge overestimate) of hospitalisations, but less easy to show how restrictions are affecting individuals so much.
//My post was in response to the one I quoted about those age 18-38 about life now..//

I didn’t know that, bob. So let’s have a look at their lives. Those who are of University age have had their A-Levels and university education thoroughly trashed. Many of those setting out on commercial or professional careers have had their advancement heavily compromised by being unable to work with more experienced colleagues so as to learn their professions. Many have probably missed out on promotions as a result. Those who had planned to travel abroad for work have had that idea scotched. Those living alone who rely on workplaces for social stimulation and interaction have had that curtailed and many of them are suffering mentally as a result. Apart from that (which is what I immediately can think of from the top of my head) everything is spiffing.
// lol true, could be worse, could be in Australia or New Zealand where they really have gone bonkers//

or America where they are approaching 800 000 deaths - each one a mother's son. child then

or did they know a year later than the link between infection and death would be broken by vaccination
( no is the answer- this is AB)
// had their advancement heavily compromised by being unable to work with more experienced colleagues so as to learn their professions.//

oh god lucky them - law school - law practice course ( 1 year) and then dogsbody to a Master ( er pupillage in case anyone on AB doesnt realise) and start the law grind - if you have a rich daddy that is!

I took a year out and worked as MO on an archeological site ( wh is where I learnt my Arabic) - the restart was not as tricky as I thought at the time.

and if EVERYONE is kicked back then.... it aint really a kick back is it? It is er normality ( in the er AB sense)
//...and if EVERYONE is kicked back then.... it aint really a kick back is it?//

So because everybody suffers, nobody suffers?
