Strange question this... Should dogs get ear wax? And if so, what colour (ish) should it be? My pup has had a lot of trouble with her ears and am hoping this isn't another thing!
Hi missmoore,
this is a bit gross, but smell inside your dogs ears. If it smells cheesy, it's an infection and you should get pups to the vet. Can't you tell I've done that before!!
Cheers
If your dog seems troubled and shakes her ears a lot she may have ear mites, which can be easily treated with doggy ear drops. if in doubt seek advice from a vet.

I always gave my dogs and ferrets a spoonful of cod/olive oil every day, (and they love it) at the same time would give them a few drops in their ears once a week. kills any mite's by suffocation and their ears stay perfectly clean.
Dogs do have ear wax, and it's usually a brownish colour.
They can get excess wax if they have an ear mite infection, and sometimes in breeds of dog with long ears the wax doesn't drain properly and can build up.
If your pup is shaking her head a lot, and scratching at her ears, there is a problem, be it mites or an infection, and you should take her to the vets for a checkup, especially if she's had trouble with her ears before!
You can get ear drops from the vet which clean out the ears and clear any wax, you can also get dental ear care pads, which you can use to wipe out the ear (being very careful not to prod too deep) once the ear has been cleared of any wax.
If your dog has long hairy ears trim the inside surface so the hairs do not irritate (if you can't do this take her to a groomers and they will do it for you).
Dogs do not get ear wax.Any brown colour "wax" in a dog's ear,is produced by ear mites. Its the dried blood from the mites feeding of the skin in the ear.
The vet will prescribe drops.Do not use abrasive earwashes as this will make the condition worse.
