I know we've had a bit of a run on such questions regarding the festive period, but something I heard on the radio prompts this extra one. We might get a few comic responses :-D

The radio quote goes, "Nobody actually likes bread sauce, do they? It tastes like someone’s eaten a piece of bread, chewed it up and spat it onto your plate. Merry Christmas. ".

So folks, does anyone actually like bread sauce?

(My answer is yes incidentally.)

I do - and I make my own. It’s a fiddly process to get it right :-) (onions, cloves, peppercorns, milk, cream, breadcrumbs, seasoning)
Have to agree with Canary’s description lol.
I don't think I have ever had it!!
Never had it as just "bread sauce" but buy a packet and put it in with my other ingredients when making a meat loaf. Think I originally got the recipe on a bread sauce packet.
Caran I’m not actually sure if I have either tbh - it’s just the look of it has always stuck with me.
No, it’s neither bread, or a sauce.
Dislike it, I giggled last night when someone on TV said - 'Wonder who was the first person to taste bread and say - bet this would be good wet?'
I have never had any I don't like the look of it. I do know someone that loves it though.
I can't remember if I might have had it in the past, but it isn't something I'd think of eating these days.
A sauce has to have a flavour, david small.
I would be here all night to list the ones I can think of.
Cheese sauce by your reckoning then is cheese or a sauce
Tomato sauce " " " " is tomato or a sauce
Mustard sauce " " " " is mustard or a sauce
Chocolate sauce " " " " is chocolate or a sauce
I suspect you don't eat a very varied diet.

I make a bread sauce with every cooked poultry dinner I roast. Love studding the onion with cloves and adding to the milk as it warms. Proper cooking, no less.

Canary, I love bread sauce but I wouldn't serve it with a little yellow song bird ;)
Love it. So does granddaughter. Nice cold mixed with mayo on turkey sandwich. Also fried in leftover sprout, potatoes and parsnips with onion and bacon
I’ve probably had some but don’t recall disliking it if…
Don't think I've ever had it, but judging by the pictures I've seen, it doesn't look inviting.

Why call it bread sauce when it's got onions and cloves in it - to presumably add flavour? :-))
Call it onion and clove sauce and be done :D
It’s called bread sauce because is made of bread (and seasoned by the other ingredients)

Duh!
Mamya, that was Jason Manford, live at the Christmas Apollo.
Did someone miss the :D ?
Duh!

Season greetings :D x
:-D
I've never tried it, just the look of it puts me off and now I've read the quote I'm not going anywhere near it!
Yes, lovely stuff. The taste of Christmas.
I make a garlicky one with Sichuan pepper and mustard. Nothing like me the traditional one but it goes really well with duck
