washing machine breakdown

my washing machine runs a full cycle but it will not spin has anybody got any ideas what is wrong

It is unlikely to be the motor brushes if the machine goes through most of the cycle. Does the pump empty the drum before trying to spin? Your machine may be fitted with an imbalance device that has been triggered if the load was badly off centre weightwise. Sorry can't suggest much more without more symptoms. Andy
