Nhs Money Waste

A nephew was waiting quite a while for an operation on NHS.
Eventually he was given a date although it required travelling to England.
Flights were arranged as was a three day stay for his Mother at a nearby hotel.
All paid for by the NHS.
A few days before the appointment the operation was cancelled.
Surgeon was unavailable.
Sitting at home, on the day they had been due to fly out to England for the operation the Mother
received a call on her mobile.
It was a taxi driver at the English airport telling her where to meet him when she got off the plane. She explained the situation to him.
The next day another phone call.
Covid testers wanting to know which room of the hotel she was in as the nephew was to do a PCR
Test.
So the NHS paid for 2 return flights to England, 2 Airport taxi trips, and 3 day stay in a hotel.
Obviously never cancelled any of them.
Don't tell me the NHS is run efficiently!

It is struggling because successive Governments over the last 40 years or so have failed to address the problem and restructure it from top down.
The big problem is of course it is a political football so it will never happen, until it goes pop one day of course and with all the diabetes problems about to hit it then that day probably wont be long.

//Similar story of friend who went from Dundee to Strathclyde for a cataract op. In hospital for less than 2 hours. Cost? £280 standard charge plus mileage. Op could have been done in Dundee!//
Maybe it could, maybe they would of had to wait 6 months longer. I know its easy to find problems without knowing the details.
£280 may sound a lot but not when you consider the consultant surgeon may charge that an hour and these ops sometimes need a team
