Every few years there seems to be fewer and fewer of the many species that used to come around. Now I am reduced to robins, blackbirds, blue, coal, great and longtailed tits, a nuthatch, some finches and that is it. I never see a thrush and haven't seen any gold finches for a few years.
they must all be in my garden I get throngs of different types..can't keep them going in feed ! sparrows wrens finches of all colours jays crows thrush blackies robins sparrow hawks magpies..gulls..
our communal garden with two large trees attracts all sorts of lovely birds, robins, magpies, pigeons, long and short tailed tits, and once parakeets, which were stunning
Pesticides don't distinguish between what we want and what we don't want to get rid of, so birds like the thrush suffer.
Finches are becoming very rare, here, too.
Keep the feeders topped up, especially in this cold weather.
I do keep my feeder topped up with sunflower hearts. When I moved into this flat 11 years ago I had Robins, Blackbirds, Green Woodpeckers, Jays, Thrushes, Wrens, Dunnocks, Blue/Great/Coal Tits.
I know the lack of them now is mainly/partly? due to the cat that arrived next door and spends all day hunting them from her position on top of the shed which overlooks my garden.
