Tiggerblue10, isn't it just a novel? Many novels have themes that are semi-topical, relevant etc, and reflect events that have been in the news - but the books are fiction.

Finished the last 3 episodes yesterday. I thought overall it was good. Not brilliant but a good watch.

Also, I'm pretty sure that the in-laws house or mansion is the same building that was used in Pride & Prejudice tv series as the Bennetts home.
