Toned - one inside td(tough) Army vernacular
//The meaning of TD is Tough//
Tuned - ted (tough) around ‘un (one)
Tuned, adjusted, works better for me. Toned doesn't seem to fit that definition.

Thanks, to both, I think the clue is at fault, I'm not sure I would describe a Ted as a tough though
Definition of ted:

“Ted, Teddy boynoun. a tough youth of 1950's and 1960's wearing Edwardian style clothes”
