This poem was in my local rag today.
The Jubilee
A mother cries, she can’t buy food
The Food banks are her shops
The meter’s run out of credit
When will this ever stop
Meanwhile flags and bunting adorn
Every image on TV
Honouring a rich old woman
With a 70 year jubilee
One billion plus it’s costing
That’s what the papers say
She has no understanding of
The struggle day to day
What an opportunity missed
A show of empathy
A no fuss cost free jubilee
A kinder legacy
This extravagance is obscene
A billion pound joke
For a Queen who’s stinking rich
The U.K. almost broke
