wonderful, just how lucky we were at the time, even you 5C types she saved though I'd never expect you to realise it. Forgive them Mags for they know not what they do.
Wish we had her today. Poltroons do your worst, a ton of you is not worth an ounce of her.

//Wish we had her today.// So do I Tora. So do I. Coincidentally I've recently been watching "The Crown" and I'm up to the part where TGL has just been asked by Her Maj to form a government. It's very well done and Gillian Anderson plays MT extremely well. Mrs NJ and I almost shed a tear as we recalled that day with utter joy. The relief we felt on that day, when we...

//I just find it odd that anyone else who slams this present government on here other than yourself, then TTT slams them.Very strange indeed.//

As I said earlier, I am not attacking the government, the opposition or any individuals within either. I’m dissatisfied with the entire political class. This country deserves better. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any better candidates.

//If Thatcher was here today she would certainly not repeat the sale of council houses, that's what caused the shortage of housing, even to this day.//

There is not a shortage of housing. There is an over-abundance of people, many of them unable (or often unwilling) to earn enough money to support themselves and their families. Taxpayers should not be expected to either provide housing for them or to pay their rent.

// She was great if you were wealthy and had money.//

I was neither wealthy nor did I have any money when Mrs Thatcher was in office. Mrs NJ and I were working as many hours as we could to manage a reasonably comfortable existence. So your statement is incorrect because she was the greatest Prime Minister either of us has lived under. But back to my question: what damage or harm did she cause you?

// Sandra @ 11.37,But what makes it all so laughable sandra is that N/J and TTT helped put Boris into power//

And I don’t regret it for one second. Had he not become Prime Minister it is highly likely that we would still be fannying around negotiating a “deal” with the EU. But it doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything he or his government does. And it doesn’t mean (in relation to this thread) that I believe he has greater qualities than Mrs Thatcher.
//Council houses were sold at considerably less than market rates to the people who lived in them - not to the rich.//

And if they sold them to the "rich" then the fault for further enriching them lies with the original purchaser, the ex-tenant. No doubt those ex-tenants, having gained access to the property market, wanted to change houses. It's what people who own their own house often do. Or are you suggesting that once they purchased their ex-council house they must stay there forever?
I haven't watched it yet. My parents have always voted Tory and they liked Thatcher. I was young and didn't pay much attention to politics at the time and didn't have a clue about the affected mining community up North as we're London based. Sad times for all concerned but were they closed down due to environmental reasons or something else?

I don't understand anyone partying over the death of anyone. Well, apart from murderers, child abusers etc!
and now pardners
take your places for the usual - - tired - dance
dar dar-der der der - plink plink, plonk plonk (er)
( waltz)

poltroons, brayne-dead and the usual....
TTT - that is a very insulting way of referring to our current Prime minister and the tory majority

ter - daaaah ! ( I hesitate over what the common man in the street calls Carrie)
// I don't understand anyone partying over the death of anyone. Well, apart from murderers, child abusers etc!//
Jeffrey Epstein
Madoff ( who - he - - made off with rich people's money and then they werent rich anymore ) ( but he was) ( and then he was dead)
Ronnie Biggs
2 kids who killed that 3 y old
Hitler ( of course ) , Stalin
//...but were they closed down due to environmental reasons or something else?//

Have a read of this, tigger:

// She was great if you were wealthy and had money.// - I come from a very poor family, I was 16 when she came to power, she inspired me to better myself instead of whining all the time. I'm proud to be one of Thatcher's children, we kicked aris and got ourselves a life. Life is not fair but everyone has the same chance at the start. grasp it instead of moaning. I am so grateful that I coincided in space and time with TGL.

naomi24 @12.37 ( What on earth are you talking about)
Obviously something you can't get a grip of.
The last time this was in play people bought their council home for less than the building cost, in other words for peanuts.

The only condition was that you could not sell for 3 years. What do you think most of them did after 3 years when some wise guy money bags came knocking on the door after that time, offering more money than they could ever have wished to lay their hands on.
And most of the time the money offered and taken was still only half the market value with the promise that they could still stop in the house and re- rent it.

They are called sharks I believe. Plus the fact that most who bought forgot about the up keep of the property. No longer could they just pick the phone up and call the council for every repair needed, or the replacement of the boiler.

And please stop treating me like a fool, making out that rich people just dived in a bought council property. ok.
Indeed, Sandra. Obviously something I ‘can’t get a grip of’ - thank goodness.
Many also had useless endowment policies sold to them to keep the monthly payment down ( interest only) You can either afford a mortgage or you can't, and for the life of me can't see anyone on benefits being able to no matter how the government dress it up.
//No longer could they just pick the phone up and call the council for every repair needed, or the replacement of the boiler.//

Exactly. And that's one of the most important reasons for offloading "social" housing. The cost of maintaining this stock is absolutely phenomenal. That's why there's no point in offloading one lot only to build another.
