Do you still tell people to commit suicide?
I remember a post of yours years ago where you
got some grief for telling some people that they should *off* themselves.
It's such a waste when teenagers 'do it for love'.
When you're older you just know that if they hung on they'd wonder what they ever saw in him/her. (within weeks probably)
They were the ones we hated losing in ITU, the young ones who took an overdose of paracetamol because they had a row with their boyfriend not realising how little can be a fatal dose, some had liver transplants, some survived with supportive care. Far too many died
//Anybody would have got a dreadful reaction. People only defend it because of who said it.//
I do wonder, if I (as an ex-con) had said that I was a member of an internet group that encouraged suicidal people to follow through and commit suicide,
would even be allowed a voice on AB ever again.
//I detest all soldiers, regarding them as total scum.
I despise the Samaritans as they work for the opposite of what the online groups I work with are striving for, which is a MASSIVE increase (perhaps 10,000 fold) in the suicide rate.//

Whereas instead you just post this question ... //
And instead of encouraging suicidal people to follow through and commit suicide, you encourage people [Chris] to encourage suicidal people to follow through and commit suicide ...
WARNING: A rather macabre tale NOT for the squeamish or overly sensitive folk:
On the topic of your views Chris, and recalling your wishes for the disposal of your body after your demise (dumped in the wheelie bin or something similar if I remember correctly) , and bearing in mind your cat empire, this article caught my eye.
I'm a firm believer in assisted suicide. We should be given the right to end our lives if we wish. I certainly have plans to go if life gets more painful and that ould probsbly mean dignitas. I have let my loved ones know. They would cope because they would respect my wishes. No funeral either. I would like to think my ending could be like that I give to my animals, to end suffering. Hopefully our laws will change.
Chris, if your son told you he was thinking of committing suicide, would you encourage him?
I agree that if life gets unbearable you should be able to "check out", if that's your wish. But I can't get my head round your way of thinking (that is, if I'm understanding it right).
