The theme of the quiz is east
It would help if Savannah777 said the theme was east and the letter count is 11
?Whitechapel
(East) Smithfields
only one East Smithfield, though
Stepney green
I suggested Whitechapel because it is East of Aldgate and the Royal Mint was previously sited there but ???
I think that's a typo, Etch, I've checked the A-Z, Wikipedia, Google and the London Encyclopedia and an AA map and they all say there's only one East Smithfield
There’s Aldgate station and there’s Aldgate East station a bit further down the road. The Royal Mint used to be near there. I don’t know if that helps.
everybody's right, it was in Royal Mint Court, which is still there just off East Smithfield, though it's half a mile south of Aldgate station. But it's only 10 letters.
I think the Royal Mint used to be in The Minories - opposite Aldgate East station.
I accept that the street is most commonly referred to as 'East Smithfield' but 'East Smithfields' is occasionally used:

In 1812 the Royal Mint moved from the Tower of London to the site shown as 'Coopers Yard' on the above map.
