Hertfordshire has only eleven MPs representing the people of Hertfordshire within Westminster Palace. Further, this government has a powerful part of its legislator completely undemocratically appointed (the House of Lords), governing the laws applicable to the people of Hertfordshire.

I suggest we have a referendum in Hertfordshire to become an independent state, allowing them to set their own laws democratically. As part of Hertfordshire’s independence, only those born in Hertfordshire would have the right to live and work in the county – all others would need a visa. All goods and services entering and leaving the county would be subject to a levy, greatly enriching the people of Hertfordshire and giving the people of Hertfordshire sovereignty over their own affairs.

To become independent at least 50% of Hertfordshire’s population would need to vote in favour of independence. As part of the vote leave campaign, they could post the amount of money (tax) the people of Hertfordshire would avoid paying to central government on the side of a red bus.

So if I moved there with my family in the 1960's at the age of 3 I would have no rights but the many illegal immigrants smuggled into the county and have since given birth would have total civilian ship ?

I’m expecting TTT & NJ to post in support of this proposal, especially as it gives Hertfordshire sovereignty, such that they are no longer subject to the laws of this undemocratic body which includes an unelected chamber passing laws to which the citizens of Hertfordshire are subject.

What about acquisition of citizenship through residency?

How would imposing a levy on goods leaving the County help? If the receiving country also imposed a levy, would the increased price not reduce sales?
