Morning all, we have a fairly modern.. about 10 yrs old I think, upvc half glazed door, that when shut wont lock. The Handle needs to go up to lock, but will only go about 3/4 way therefore wont lock. When the door is opened, the handle will go fully up & the locking mechanism works fine, cant see anything out of place or blocking it. Any ideas what it could be? thanks. Mrs C x

summat must have shifted in the locking parts of the frame I guess
get a person in!
could it be affected by the extreme heat we've been having? we have trouble with our upvc door when it's really hot
The bolts are obviously catching when you try to insert them into the door frame. Try squirting some WD40 into the holes in the door frame and see if that helps.
Had the same problem. The handle operates 2 bolts, top and bottom, and two hooks which slot into receivers in the frame.

I removed one of the receivers, hey presto. The door will still lock safely.

Thanks y'all for your quick replies lol...might wait for Mr C to get home then pass on your tips..lol thank you again x
An aged aunt had the same problem and it was the heat. The door worked again as the day cooled.

Luckily in Scotland our summer only lasts two days.

Exactly that. Same problem myself recently, locksmith said because it is a black door it warps/buckles more in the heat.
Took him 10 minutes to sort, didn’t have to make any lock adjustment, just adjusted the spacers under the door.

A firm outward push (not a sudden push), while you are trying to move the handle, might do it. My patio door sometimes gets like that in the heat and I think it's because the door buckles slightly inwards or outwards. If not a push, then a pull might work.
