Would earplugs be any help?
I lived and worked in the Middle East for a while. When I first arrived I thought I would never get to sleep with that big lump of an air conditioner rumbling away in my bedroom. I was wrong.

However then along came winter and I turned the air conditioner off. I was then woken at 4 in the morning by some guy on a tannoy at the local mosque shouting "Alluah Al Akhbar".

That air conditioner was brilliant at drowning him out

Ouch! There are legal levels of noise. You could ask your council to send someone to check them. Someone in the village started racing motorbikes around a field and it became intolerable and that's what we did. Noise levels were proved to be too high.

You could, of course, go to your nearest church and join the bell-ringers to fight back?
can't an Englishman sleep peaceful in his bed any more?
This is funny, when the guy supposed to call people to prayer fell asleep.

Apparently not....
And if you go to the council to complain you'll probably be dealing with a guy with a prayer-mat rolled up besides his desk.
Funnily enough, when in Brunei I found the prayers very relaxing and soporific to wake up to. I still find them relaxing. I must be weird. I can't stand the sound of British church bells!
maybe it's that the human voice is more melodious and comforting than clanking bells, Miss T?

(Not when doing rap music, of course.)
No council in the UK would dare ask them to stop.
The day will come when the English will be a minority in their own country. It will serve us right.

Most councils do not allow the call to prayer over loudspeakers, some permit it during Ramadan.

It certainly should not be happening all night.
"Don't say a prayer for me now, save it 'til the morning after" as the great poet and philosopher Double Duran once said.
