Private chats and correspondence

I am seeing a lot of suggestions regarding private chats and answers between two people that one considers should not be made public and would prefer to talk about as a one to one.

AB is a public site and all posts made here are seen by all the members and general public. To see an answer stating "I'll email you" or "I'll chat to you" effectively leaves answers as a cliff hanger with people following a topic left up in the air as it will take the answers out of answerbank. I would really ask for caution in making this facility available.

I know what you mean flubber, and whiffey: people saying 'See you on MSN' is a bit like kids whispering in the playground and then ostentatiously clamming up when someone else comes along. It's mildly uncivil behaviour, but I don't think there's any point in stopping it; people will talk where they want to and it's not really AB's place to discourage them, unless chat is to be banned altogether... now there's a thought...
