I think it is Aloe Vera. I'll look later to see if plantlets could be repotted.

You can take cuttings and repot

I would either:
move to much larger container if you want one huge spectacular specimen
or take off enough cuttings to reduce it to a manageable size, pot them up and Voila ! the dreaded C word gift for all your friends :-)
