Just been watching the TV regarding the Queen in the war. Has anyone ever had a parent that was evacuated?

yes my Mum and she absolutely hated it and cried all the time to come home ! Poor Mum.
Yes my mother was evacuated from Birmingham.
My parents weren't evacuated but, as it seems relevant here, perhaps I can recommend this book to you? It's an excellent read, with loads of personal stories, and you can pick up a secondhand copy for under three quid (inc postage) on Amazon:

I was evacuated, not my parents.
And I loved it. I remember the man of the house used to put a blob of his shaving cream on the end of my nose and thought it was so funny. The family were very kind to me.
Yes, my Mum (26 at the time), along with 1-year-old me and my twin brother moved out of Penge where I was born to Herne Bay.

My Mum was evacuated to Gloucestshire. She was there for 3 months. Her younger sister lasted for 3 weeks. I wish I had asked more about her time there.
Like ladybird, or almost like ladybird, my grandparents , who brought me up from a baby, were too old to be evacuated, but I was 5 years old when WW2 began.
I lived in a town that took in evacuees, mainly from London, although we didn't take in vacuees ourselves, I have vague recollections of the attitude of the community to them and it was a working class, poor area.

I can only speak in a very limited way and from a rather doddering memory and from a small section of evacuees.

On the whole the children were not welcomed, had a tough time and were prejudged as troublemakers and bed wetters.......people to be avoided if possible.
I myself was not evacuated, but had that been the case I think that it mught have changed my life, depending of course on how I was received.

This is just my very limited experience which may not have been representative of vacuees as a whole.
My Mum. She hated it and said she was treated badly.

I remember some stories about people in Cornwall who took in evacuees. Mainly hard nosed farmers who wanted cheap labour
Talking about evacuees in Cornwall, I have twice read a book "Kisses on a Postcard" by Terence Frisby. It's an account of his time spent in Cornwall, I forget the name of the town, as an evacuee from London. It's an excellent story, and often quite moving.

I was evacuated aged 7 - it was not a happy time. People were so obedient then. I cannot imagine parents now allowing that to happen. I look at my 7 year old great granddaughter and cannot think about that happening to her.
We had a brother and sister evacuees. They came up to Lancashire from London and went to school with us. After the war was over my mother took me down to visit their family in London. We kept in touch for a few years .Happy memories.
You do NOT want to know about my evacuation.
