Gas Boilers
6 Answers
Hi folks, we've just had our aged (for boilers!) gas boiler serviced, and whilst it was all fine, with no issues detected, we are acutely aware that it is now coming to the end of its active life and we should be looking to replace it. Howeverl Mr Chox thinks he read somewhere that gas boilers are going to be phased out soon, in favour of some other type of heating boiler. When he asked the gas boiler service engineer, the engineer denied knowing anything about this. We would, as you can imagine, hate to get our current boiler replaced now(ish) only to have to have it ripped out in a couple of years' time to adhere to Government regulations for gas boilers. Does anyone know anything about this, please? Many thanks, Chox.

Good to know that we don't have to start coughing up a load of heard-earned cash for a new boiler now .... our current boiler is, as I said before, on its last legs, but now that we don't have that 2025 deadline anymore, we'll leave it until it conks out .... as with our aged Hoover washing machine! Thanks again everyone!
The proposal for a ban on new fossil fuel (gas/oil) boilers by a certain deadline is just that: No more new boilers to be sold or installed from that date. This concept is being considered not just in the UK but much wider afield - dates will no doubt vary when it comes to it. Older/existing boilers will continue to be allowed but ultimately it is quite possible/likely that they too will be banned. Gas/oil boilers will almost certainly be replaced mainly by electrically powered heating systems, electric "boilers", heat pumps, etc.
