We've all been struck down with a nasty tummy bug and I have not eaten a morsel for 48 hours now. I'm aching all over and my head is thumping.

Would it be okay to take one dose of Ibuprofen when my stomach is empty or should I try, say, half a piece of toast?

Thanks.

Normally Sqad would say , taps fingers and waits , not sure
Ibuprofen On an empty stomach will help though
I would have thought so - no doubt you know to keep your hydration levels up.....
Personally, I wouldn't, LCG. Try some toast first & try and drink a little water.
There have been a nasty tummy bug going around my grandson's school last couple of weeks. Hope you feel better soon.
Taking ibuprofen without food can leave to stomach irritation, which would seem to be the very last thing that you'd want at the moment!
(See here for the science: https://www.sciencealert.com/why-do-we-take-some-medications-with-food ).

The painkiller that's used in hospitals nearly all of the time, simply because there are very few situations where it's not appropriate, is paracetamol. So that's what I'd opt for in your situation.

Get well soon!

I've had mostly peppermint tea and water today, DT.

My tummy is still in knots and OH has gone down with it now x

Thanks Chris and Patsy. It was little one who came home with it and he sent my mother away with it too. x
lcg - my stomach has been in knots for about a week and half - not a tummy bug but lots of anxiety.

haven't been eating well either but after having a slice of toast this morning - more or less forced myself to have two fish fingers. You need to eat with ibuprofen. And also drink plenty of water.
so it's something viral...may be worth calling Moules' school in the morning to see if they have identified what it is....

I spoke to them this morning, DT, just to say he wouldn't be in until at least Thursday. They never mentioned any other cases.

Sorry to hear that, JJ. Do try to little and often.
if paracetamol usually works for you, take it, though it doesn't do much for me. Otherwise maybe an ibuprofen with some spoonfuls of yoghurt?
All you need is a little bit of fat. Take them with milk, or eat a little piece of bread and butter.

Thanks, guys, I didn't chance it in the end.
Chances are, you are low in electrolytes if you have a thumping headache and haven’t eaten.

Put some good quality salt under your tongue, and that will prep you up.

Also, you can take lemon meltlets which are kinda on your system than ibuprofen tablets.
