birthday newspaper

hi, i have a 10 day old baby.

we bought a copy of 'the times' on the day he was born as a nice keepsake for the future.

I know newspapers degrade pretty quickly under normal conditions - any ideas what will keep the paper in the best possible condition for the next 8 yrs?

I have newspapers way older than 8 years and are in good nick, however I would suggest that you keep it out of the sun (newspaper does yellow very quickly) and you could always store it in an acid free file. I've not used them, but this company does supply them

I have found newspapers just lying in lofts over 50 years old. Just keep it flat and in a cover to protect it from dust damp and sunlight and it will last for many many years.

First of all, congratulations on your new son. I wish you all every happiness.
We did the same as you when our girls were born, as well as the newspaper we bought the cd single that was number 1 at the time. We keep the papers and cd in a box in the attic along with the girls hospital wrist bands, first photos and all the cards we received.
As others have said as long as you keep the newspaper out of the sun it should be fine. x

same here, we did the newspaper thing for our girls the oldest is now 11 and her newspaper still looks white and pristine. its in a large boxfile along with cards, certificates etc.. in the cupboard.

Just a thought ... you could buy the Number 1 DVD / CD single ? album also as a memento ... they keep better and you may end up with a valuable bit of history in 25 years +
