So (sadly) you're unlikely to get a ban unless you already have 6 points or more. If you plead not guilty and have to be convicted your fine may be increased (though probably not the points on your licence), and so it should if you've lied to the court. Apart from anything else, the time and effort needed for your guilt to be proven will be passed on to you in court costs.
The annoying thing for the law-abiding among us is that once you've got this on your record, it will be more difficult and expensive for you to get insurance in future, making it even less likely that you'll bother. :-(

How many times have you asked this now?
3? 4?
I cannot see how you can plead not guilty - that's saying that you weren't driving or that you were insured.
You can plead guilty and claim mitigating circumstances - In other words yes you were driving uninsured but it's because.....
The because will have to be very good to make a difference - "I didn't realise" or "I thought my bike licesnse covered cars" really isn't going to hack it.
You're more likely to impress them by looking them straight in the eye and taking responsibility saying that you knew what you were doing and were deliberately not thinking about it and you now understand how irresponsible it was.
I'm sure every man jack pulled up has a sob story about how he was told the policy was OK or he forgot to renew or whatever. Not trying to make excuses for your behaviour is your best chance of setting yourself apart from them.
