I've just joined a gym, with the aim to loose weight and tone up. Which exercise machines / swimming and weights should I be using and how long for?

Which machines are the best to all over body workout and which exercises get you faster results?

Thanks!

you should go on a gym induction which most gyms do for free and ask their qualified people these questions
swimming covers your whole body...muscles you did not know you had ache the next day
a mixture of all of the varied exersizes will usually be the best route towards a healthyer body..

always start with the lightest weights, the easyest machine settings, the slowest and the shortest times,

slowly break yourself into exersize..

ask the proffesionals at the gym

Buy a push bike and enjoy the countryside at the same time as getting fit, OK, so not everybody can get to the countryside on a bike. Riding through a city is still more interesting than looking at the wall of a gym, a swim every day or so and you will be looking and feeling great in no time.
ratter - cycling outdoors is impossible for me. I have asthma and bronchitis, aggravated by traffic fumes and pollen.

Maybe OP has a similar complaint.

and Ethel its raining at the moment
If your going to invest in an exercise machine at home id say defo go for a treadmill the weight drops off you! If you get a good one with the programs on which i used! I cut out all my snacks and had smaller portions, did a 40mins exercise program on the treadmill 5 days a week and lost a stone and half in a month! wicked until i got bored and ate for the sake of it and put it all back on!!
-Zorro- what do you mean its raining, since when did rain ever hurt anybody, OK you may get wet, but you suggested swimming lol.

OK so cycling isn't for everybody, I went for induction at a gym, I was so bored after 30 minutes I vowed never to go to one again. One mans meat is another mans poison I suppose lol
