I'm overweight.

I went to the Drs this morning and he measured and weighed me - I'm 5.11 and weigh 13 stone exactly which, according to his little chart, gives me a BMI of 25.4 and therefore I'm officially overweight, or, to give it its technical name, a Fat B4stard.

I have a 34" waist.

Given that BMI takes no account of body composition (I have fairly big legs and shoulders from years of rugby - in fact, I weigh less now than I did when I was playing regularly), is it a fair comment to state that the BMI index is a load of rubbish and should be ignored?

Mine was 19 when I was in my 20s' but we didn't know about BMI's then.

If you use the chart the figure on the left indicates what you probably look like when you work out your BMI.

My picture shows a woman with whapping hips and thighs and narrow shoulders! It all totally silly. I have wide shoulders and slim hips and thighs!!

im overweight too according to that...but im not i ignore the bmi...im 5ft1 and weigh 10stone...but im a size 10 in clothes...and honestly not joking...i hav a large cheast and im convinced it weighs me down! i know im not overweight!! it says i should be 7stone to 9 stone!!!! id be disgusting at 7 stone!!!!!!!!!!!!
