My Daughter lives in a fbasement lat in an old house and when I visited her this week she told me there is a manhole under the carpet in her bedroom. I have a feeling this is illegal. Does anyone know?

Not very nice i am sure but as for been illegal i dont think so . But it should be an air tight cover on it that is for sure. As a plumber by trade and had to deal with a few manholes in my time i have seen them in some very funny places including in the kitchens of public resteraunts Nice eh!!!
Oooh, let's hope it is an air tight cover. I was working in a Texas store (that is, Homebase before it became Homebase) once and there there was a really freaky storm which caused flash flooding all over the town. We had a manhole in the store which blew due to the pressure, and it wasn't very nice - gave a wole new meaning to selling C**p.
I don't believe so. I worked in a restaurant at quite a posh place, and they had them in the kitchens. There is also one in the middle of the canteen where I work now.

Are we talking UK My neighbour built an extension and because he couldn't get enough fall away for the drains he had to put a manhole inside the room He was told he could only use the room as a games room not for living accommodation.
He left some while ago and I know that the new people use the room as living accommodation.

These rules are made but no-one polices them
the local water authority may be worth ringing for clarification
