I have a faulty Zanussi washing machine. I think the circuit board is malfunctioning as the program won't start or if it does, the countdown timer starts at 1 minute. Is it best to call out a Zanussi engineer (£145 call out charge) or will a generic washing machine engineer be ok (and probably cheaper)?

Have you tried unplugging it for an hour or so? That can sometimes clear this sort of malfunction, the machine circuitory can go in to a loop.

How old is the washing machine? No harm getting quotes from reputable engineers to compare costs.

If the machine is getting old I would seriously consider replacing it with a new one - it would be more energy efficient, cheaper to run.
I agree with Barry, if the machine is several years old, consider putting the repair money towards a new one.
If its the control panel that itself is likely to be £100+.

I repair my own machines and have had to replace these before so it can be done but whether it is cost effective is another matter. Even when doing it yourself!
