Her heartbeat dropped and it was like a scene out of casualty. The thought of giving birth scared the *** out of me so at my first consultant appointment I specified I wanted an epidural whatever happened. This enabled me to get through the next 6 months a little relieved but at a pre-natal class when our partners had to pinch our wrists hard so we could practice breathing through the pain I said to the woman running the class that I was having an epidural anyway. She said almost aghast 'you're having an epidural?' and then asked the whole class in a tone of complete disgust 'is anyone else having an epidural?' which was met with silence. I felt like a criminal...
