Bad Earwax/blocked Ears

Teen Smow has always suffered from ear wax and has has his ears syringed several times. His ears are blocked right now and he has been trying his doctors every day for a week to get them syringed but they keep saying no appointments and call back tomorrow. Trouble is he is flying on holiday on 29th April and really doesn’t want to go away like this.. he’s bough drops to use at home and has used the whole course but they haven’t worked either. Any bright ideas?? His hearing is really affected at the moment. TIA.

No he doesn’t. He doesn’t have any pain. He just can’t hear properly out of the right ear and he’s been told it’s fluid behind the eardrum.

If it was me, I would take Sudafed tablets and try menthol and eucalyptus inhalations.

The build up of fluid can cause his ear drum to rupture and that really hurts! My son gets a fluid build up without any seeming infection and has had repeated burst ear drums and his hearing is severely affected as a result.

When I have had a blocked ear, I softens the wax with drops and use a cheap spray bottle. I put warm water in the bottle and adjust the nozzle so a single line of water comes out.

Lean head over the sink, put the nozzle against the ear and skoosh away. It takes a few goes to get the technique and the angle right but it works for me.

Was the "guy" who syringed his ears, a Dr.?
If he wasn't, then U would question the presence of fluid, but if he was, then he would have suggested some treatment......so......I guess he wasn't.
How old is your son...if he is under 10 years old, then he will need to see an ENT surgeon as it may well be glue ear which may need draining and gromet's.
If he is older, then it is probably just inflammatory fluid possible from a cold.

He needs to see an ENT surgeon BUT, in the meantime, get him to hold his nostrils tightly and the blow down the obstructed nostrils and do this every two or three hours and that may well do the trick.

Sqad people say that is very dangerous, however i've done it billions of times and my eyes are still in their sockets.

Is there any truth to this danger?

spath...no it isn't dangerous. If the ear drum bursts, which is very rare, the fluid is released, the perforation heals, the hearing returns to normal..........job done.
