How Do You Quantify The Importance Of A Child
Once again we have headlines regarding missing Madeleine McCann, I hope closure can happen and by some miracle she’s alive and well, but it brings to mind also other ones who’ve gone missing like Ben Needham, his mother must feel her child ‘isn’t worthy’ of police time and effort, does money talk?
This is not a blaming thread , there’s been plenty of them in the past about the rights and wrongs of why Madeline went missing, more asking why one child appears to be more important than another

Sadly, I am beginning to suspect that the McCanns are so desperate for an answer that they are an easy target for every crank wannabee Sherlock who is happy to part them from their crowd funding money. They have recently gone down the path of investigatin g a delusional Polish young lady who thinks she is Madeleine.

Well one does have to question how much time British Plod spent on this case compared to others.
However this is being driven by the German Police and the Portuguese Police are doing the searching. I strongly suspect that German plod think there are more cases and that is why it is being investigated.

I suppose crowd funding pays for most of these continuing investigations these days . I suspect the parental status may have some clout also. A lad in Cheam down the road has disappeared off the street about 30 years ago. His mum is still waiting for him to come home and has kept his room as he left it. It's heartbraking but I bet no one knows of whom I speak. Just not the same publicity ,and I suppose, this is the UK with a so what attitude.

It's all based on when and if new info emerges. This is a German led activity this time so one can assume they have some new info that they are now acting on. It happens all the time, I think the Ben Needham case similarly was re awoken a few years ago. Cold cases are being processed all the time, only last week some guy was jailed after a body was exhumed for DNA.
That is the problem ymfb. So many go missing that people become apathetic. Just another child missing, just another London stabbing. Every day occurrence now a days but people continually need their memory jogged to raise awareness of these individual kids. People just forget if these events are not continually given higher profiles. The McCanns seem to manage it.
There is also the other side of this type of news. The boy, nicknamed "The Unknown Bairn" by locals, was found by Ian Robertson, the village postman, and his five-year-old son while they were on a walk along Tayport beach in Fife on May 23, 1971. The wee lad aged between 2 and 4 was found wearing only a pyjama top. To date he has never been identified and his grave was paid for and is tended by local people.
Hmm, stabbing the Government could do something about if it wanted to.
Missing persons is a whole different kettle of fish. So difficult, I think our Police actually do a good job in this area it is just they are overwhelmed with numbers. Short of almost doubling the Police numbers (just for this alone) I cant see any way round it. No law would stop the kiddie snatchers nor any law stop kids running away.
Police are certainly tackling it where they can, for instance County Lines where they are pushing to cope with vulnerable kids.

When they say thousands of children go missing every year they’re not talking about toddlers. As heartbreaking as it is when any child disappears, there’s a big difference between toddlers and teenagers going missing.
I suppose if the trail goes cold there’s nothing more the police can do. The McCann case seems to continue to
throw up new clues which must, of course, be investigated.
