Question For The Ladies
31 Answers
I have been reading a very long, uncomfortable Twitter thread about women's feeling of safety and threat around men.
The gist is, every time I happen to be in the same space as a lone woman whether it be at a bus stop, in a lift or walking along the pavement, that woman is automatically doing a risk assessment because my very presence is a threat. It makes no difference if I am much smaller or bigger than her, young or old. I read that as a man I cannot comprehend this.
My wife can't comprehend it, either. She tells me she has been in very uncomfortable situations with men, some she has known very well. She has been groped on a bus, flashed at more than once and offered money for sex from a man in a car whilst she was waiting outside a hospital but she doesn't feel threatened by a man simply because he is nearby. She appreciates it if she is walking alone at night and the man crosses the road so he isn't following her.
I am a physically large man at well over 6' but have enjoyed many a chat with a fellow traveller, often initiated by the woman. Women I have never met before have asked me to watch their back whilst they withdraw cash from an ATM. I am horrified to think that my very existence scares half the population.
So ladies, is this Twitter thread reflective of your situation or the hysterical reaction to the trans activists? By the way, my wife tells me she has never viewed ladies' toilets as a 'safe space'.

It's a sorry state of affairs but i have 3 daughters and they tell me that they sometimes feel apprehensive if walking alone at night and a man is 'following' them, even though they sort of 'know' that the male is probably just going along the same route.
All 3 carry those alarms and, thankfully, none of them need to be walking along dark country lanes or anything like that.

As a Yorkshireman I chat (I'm really quite shy) to anyone usually kicked off by the weather with others that don't know me.
However late at night I have done the crossing the road thing so someone (usually single lady) feels comfortable I'm not a threat.
Awful way to live if that way inclined I know some ladies who would kick my butt, if they ever mess with them.

It's the age we live in and the media to blame if a woman has fear of encountering a lone male (or group) when walking home, no matter what time of day. That man could be the nicest guy on the planet or one of the most evil...how is she to know? For a time, I had a job where I was the only female among some fifty or so males and never once did I feel uncomfortable in the presence of any of them .. yes, we joked, flirted a bit but that was that. On the other hand, I once was pursued by a man in a park (scary moment) but maybe he was only wanting to ask the time!! I could move faster than he could!
As LadyCG commented, best not to walk the streets alone at night but sometimes daylight is no safer. As for toilets .. if you need to go, you gotta go!

fear is in your heart
1700 crossing Oldham Rd., I had three pretties, all hugging themselves and wondering if I was gonna attack and they were gonna DDDDIIIIIIIEEEEE
One side, the mixed race lady wondered if my dog in one hand, was gonna bite her butt at my bidding. She was ... nervous
and then as I crossed with the pips, two others started clutching each others arms - shopping in the other hand, and going wobbly
dog in one hand, shopping in the other, what was I going to attack them with? - - dont answer that.
lossen up ladies and you will be free

Ladies of the night in a hospital car park.
Report - patients and relations/parents have enough to worry about
One 'lady' asked me for 3/6 for the fare to Barrow,
I said go to the ward where your child is, and ask for money or a warrant.
Oh said she, my child isnt an in patient here....
I told her she shouldnt be begging in a hospital....
