As i have often made clear on these pages, i am no fan of cricket. However, even i am aware of two things;
a) The Ashes begins on Thursday
and
b) Joe Root is quite an accomplished cricketer.
So when i saw that Willy Hill were offering EVENS (proper odds 2/5) that Root scores over 20 runs in the first innings, i immediately checked his batting average in test matches and saw enough there to have me parting with the usual tenner.
Like all sportsmen, Root does have the odd 'off-day' but to score just 21 runs or more, he doesn't need to be on an 'on-day'.
Giz, i have been gambling for over 50 years and this is my FIRST ever bet on cricket. As i said, i am not a fan. Far from it. But the stats give this one a very healthy chance of producing the goods, imho, of course.
Rooty Tooty gets 20 up, thren they all bog orf for a cuppa and a cucumber sandwich. Good job there isn't another zero on that bet or it'd be squeaky bum time:-)
