Just been reading a bit on Google about people who post on Facebook and they fall into various categories: have low-esteem, loners, extroverts, narcissists, neurotic, depressed, inquisitive, agreeable. As people who post on Answerbank which is, to some extent, similar - do you feel this statement is fairly accurate? Just wondering as I don't use Facebook.

I dont think the OP was about both AB and facebook being similar or the same, but what sort of people use it. I would say the same sort of people use AB.

well those descriptions sort of cover everyone don't they?
AB is nothing like facebook.
Just like in "real life" you get all sorts, good and bad. Unfortunately the anonymity permitted n cyberspace encourages the bad. Facebook does at least allow true names, unlike Ab which is paranoid about keeping identity secret.
I use Facebook , but only within a fairly small friends group plus a few special interest groups. The crones can be a good laugh, and I have learned a lot from the embroiderers.
//Answerbank which is, to some extent, similar//

Similar, how?

Not seen anyone post pictures of their lunch etc. It is also anonymous.

And as Bednobs says.
I agree AB isn't like Facebook except in that the user group is getting older. Facebook can be much nastier..... Oh hang on.... Maybe not that much different

Youngmafbog. I did say "to some extent" and I didn't mean to confuse. It was rather just I was curious to find out what Answerbank people think as they do use Answerbank as a platform to air grievances, ask questions, etc.

I don't use Facebook but as I understand it people can restrict their accounts to people they want to talk to. AB doesn't have that facility, therefore anonymity is important here.
I use FB regularly but only friends/family can see what I post. I'm also an Admin on a Local History group which is a passion of mine.
I don't have any friends on Facebook. Awww!
That's because I don't want any, I only join groups that are of interest to me.

AB predates Facebook, and, I think, all the major social media platforms, but I am open to correction on that.

As the name says, it was started as a simple Q and A site, originally with regular features under each heading.

As social media evolved, the site took on more of the characteristics of sites like Facebook, but I think its original ethos is still in place, a Q and A site with expanding discussion and exchanges.
nicebloke, you could be right. I only join groups on Facebook that are of interest to me, and I only read threads on here that are of interest to me. I know people who are not interested in Facebook or AB.
I never wanted to sign up to Facebook but after my cousin going on about it & saying I'm missing all the photos etc that are posted, I signed up. Its a good way of keeping up with families all around the world but I hardly ever post anything. I've joined local community pages which I do like & contribute to. I must admit I dont like it when people are "advertising" the fact that they're away from the house either on holiday or for the day...........HELLO........burglers????? Surely I'm not the only one that thinks that????
