Lie in King - your idea did lead me to the correct answer CRIVVENS (a Dundee area term of surprise!
Well done, John - I'm annoyed now as I've seen that before & should've managed to dredge it up :-)
22a My Scots dictionary gives "hoatching" for crowded but doesn't fit with your letters.
Cannot find others but will keep looking.
29 Unco?
23d? Airts - again does not fit with your letters.
18 Flyteing
16d ?Messan
"Affa" would fit 29, as in, "At een's affa sma" "That one's awfully/very small".

Affa can mean awful or awfully.
Thanks for 'affa', TheCorbyLoon, though I think I've heard 'affy' more. Neither of those are in my Chambers Scots dictionary, but unco/very is.
