Indesit Freezer

We have just bought one of these freezers was very pleased with it but it is very difficult to open the door, I am frightened the handle will come off. I have looked online and it gives a few ideas but nothing helps. I hate having to open it now, any suggestions please

Ask indesit ?

If it's under warranty any door issues should be covered (do check).

Aside of that, maybe it's just new & stiff. Try a little oil.

It does occur to me that fridge & freezer doors can be difficult to open. When you open them warm room air rushes in, cold air rushes out. You close the door, the warm air cools and shrinks, creating suction which you have to overcome when you next open the door.

Could that be the issue ?

Have you tried sliding a thin, flexible spatula between the seal and the body of the freezer? It might make it essier

If it reassures you my freezer needs a hard yank too but it still has an intact handle at
15 years old. A strong seal is essential on a freezer

^ My father's upright freezer (Beko) had the same problem...and OG's suggestion was the reason. It took a huge pull to open it...but when you closed it and opened it again a few seconds later, it was easy.

It being difficult to open means that it has a good seal which is what I would want. We bought a new fridge/freezer last week and am glad it is harder to open than the last one as it will use less energy too.

I remember when freezers had handles that you had to lift up before pulling the door open - the handle broke the seal somehow

Ours was the same when new. a service man came and stuck a little piece of tape across were the seal sat and it was a lot easier then. Before that I was pulling it away from the wall to open the door
