what are the best greek islands to spend a holiday - dont want something to 'full on' but more traditional but with good restaurants, atmosphere etc.....
Cephanolia is a beautiful island - much prefer it to Crete and Corfu. There are lots of good towns to visit offering more traditional eating places and not too many late night bars and clubs. If you hire a car you can visit most of the towns and villages.
I believe if you go to Crete and travel independently either with a hired car or using the excellent bus network, you can find a number of unspoilt places, avoiding the resorts invaded by the tour operators.
something to bear in mind possibly, because of the olympics, flights seem to be ultra xpensive this year (friend going to sumos, which i hear is lovely...
I love Naxos, in the Cyclades. But virtually all of the Cyclades are lovely. Mykonos has a reputaion, but if you avoid the 18-30 places it also is lovely. Iraklia is small and very quiet, no buses or taxis. Only a few local cars. No incessant scooter noise. I hope you find what you are looking for.
