However, there's obviously other reason why you're not getting to sleep, which you have to identify. Is your bed comfortable? the right temperature? are you relaxed, calm and tired before you get into bed? Is something waking you up? can you change it? Another trick someone on here told me, which works well for me is to count slowly to 50, if you go wrong or you're not sure if you missed out a number, start again, if you reach 50, start counting backwards. It might take you two or three goes to start with, but it does the trick of focussing your mind on something other than your worries (which is always the cause of my insomnia). Or keeping the radio on, very very softly.
