phone number into google

its claimed that typing a phone number into google brings up details of name and address - it didnt work so i assume it is american numbers only that work?

If you are ex-directory then your phone number shouldn't be published anywhere but surely 'normal' numbers won't be on the web unless you have a website that includes your phone number and therefore is likely to be found by search engines.
I have just tested it with my phone number (available in BT phonebook) and it's not there and that of my auntie in USA (also not ex directory) and again, no results.
I tried it, and it brought up several websites that had my phone number on them. Not BT, just sites that had posted something that incuded my details. Quite a surprise to be able to look up my name and address from my phone number. So in my experience it works, but only if you are sufficiently important to have your details plastered all over the internet.
