Calories Burned At Gym
5 Answers
Hi all I've recently started going to the gym (about time!) and have a program all set up. It's at a nice level for someone like myself who lacks (any) cardiovascular fitness.
Anyway, I do roughly about 45 mins which involves: 5 mins on crossover excite 700 to warm up; then four weight stations working my Lats, chest, legs and upper back. Finally I do 15 mins on the Syncho Excite 700 (varying difficultly levels).
At the end of todays workout, the 'log out' machine stated I had burned 665 calories! I thought that sounded a bit high? If it's correct that's cool but I didn't go OTT in the gym and just thought there's no way I could've burned that amount of calories in that short a space of time?

An average person would consume about 1000 calories per hour at their aerobic limit, so it doesn't seem an unreasonable amount. There are several websites that have calory calculators for various types of exercise... just google

Whilst I have no enthusiasm to look up how to work out what you should have burnt up, I find the claim you would have burnt up 665 calories in 45 minutes rather far fetched. When I did check out how much one needs to do to burn off a few calories, many years back now, I decided that sporodic exercise had little effect re weight loss. It's possible it may do more than I figure, but the rate you say sounds way over the top to me.
