He's speaking complete and utter nonsense.
As mentioned these are not refugees they are illegal economic migrants. Next his Israel example actually PAID the individual money which they then used to return. Utter insanity. Then he wants us to give EVEN MORE money to France because the French don't have the moral capacity to prevent their immigrants crossing the Channel even though they've been paid to do so. Has he not understood that only a fool throws good money after bad ?
I can only assume he was invited to the panel as the comedy act; and failed miserably.
Whether they are illegal or legal is beside the point: he's saying that the thing won't work and he is surely right: I'd suggest that spooning millions in cash for this scheme is the nonsense rather than using at least some of it to cooperate with France in actually stopping the boats leaving. Using it to empty clear the asylum backlog and to further tackle people traffickers. That's what "they haven't got a plan" Labour would do and it surely makes more sense. The Tories have made themselves hostages to a daft policy - and its cheerleaders - which there's no evidence would in any case help them in any election beyond a relatively small part of the electorate.
Migration of peoples from poor to rich areas of the world is in any case a global issue and it needs tackling globally. It's now being weaponised by terrorist regimes such as Russia and their ally Belarus. And heaven knows who else
The status is important as it was used in the linked video to incite an emotional response. In addition a true refugee has good reason to flee the country they just left, an illegal immigrant, on the other hand, is just a chancer at our expense. We have yet to see any evidence that it won't work. We have evidence of individuals who apparently don't want the problem solved putting as many obstacles in the way as they can and then using the result of their behaviour to claim it isn't working. We also know places like Australia solved their issue by shipping there illegal immigrants elsewhere (and yes I do realise that had the government any spheres shipping them back to France is a better option but this is as far as the gutless lot at Westminster will go).
well we cannot push the boats back, migrants jump into sea if we did, then have to rescue them, how about a container ship mid point no mans land if there is one, plonk migrants on that, when it full tow into french waters, they would probably tow back erm, legal routes would be deluged so thats a none starter. even if there were the boats would not stop, why because they want to be clandestine, thats why they have tossed there papers if they had any, they must have been recorded in a few countries before they got to france.. cure erm anaesthetize a cargo plane full of them, then drop them off in libya.. otherwise it never going to stop...never.
Old_Geezer, france does not want them either, pass the problem, or all the eu do not want them...pass the problem, none seem to deport them to there home countries...bit like letting stranger shack up in your house, people say who are they, erm don't know, why dont you lock the door, erm im not allowed to.
