People need to understand that once everything takes place on card transactions - the authorities know exactly where you are and what you are spending your money on. In France you are charged for your debit card and this will happen here if we are hooked on it.
We've just had legislation forbidding people from buying cigarettes, because it is 'bad for you'. I.E. removing personal autonomy. What's the betting that alcohol or sugar will be next in line? If you only have a card - you can be stopped from buying something 'unhealthy'. OK, rant over..... but the door is now open to massive forms of control.
Cash is absolutely necessary in life. Hard cash means you can appreciate what you have to spend and budget accordingly. No - to all you whizz-kids who keep a mental maths calculation of expenditure, most of us need the physicality of cash.
Example: Grandchild A - got pocket money in cash, learned to budget, now at Uni. & works in hols to meet anticipated needs.
Grandchildren B & C - got cards loaded with their pocket money.............completely lost, always running out of cash and whining.
Cash benefits everybody. Something I feel strongly about; not that you'd guess, of course. :)
Jourdain, we never use cash and can see at any time exactly when and where we have spent money.
Shops accept statements as proof of purchase when I can't find the receipt.
The banks refund losses if my cards are misused (try that if you lose your wallet or have it stolen). S.75 gives me extra protection if a business goes bust or their is a problem with my goods/services just because I paid with a credit card.
I get cash back for using my cards.
I am a support worker for Adults with LD . They get a certain amount of allowance per week as they live in care.
so we choose to go bowling 🎳 at our local bowling alley sorry they say it's card only. We go to a pub they like sorry card only.
so let's go to McDonald's oh you have to use a computerised menu which they don't understand so I'm trying to sort everyone out plus work out how they can pay by cash.
we went on a day trip and was told the cafe was card only .
im taking them to London and told transport is card only.
when will society realise that the lovely people I support are not being able to continue with their independence.

Sadly many people are not able to and get into all sorts of financial difficulties.
Both cash and cards have a place in life and for once I am in total agreement with Canary @23:39. I spent decades working for Banks I know what they are capable of.
