Since this veil debate has been in the news recently I would like to ask what is the situation at secure check points such as Airports with all the tight security, I haven`t long come back from Spain where I was searched thoroughly going and coming home, I was in bare feet, I passed though a metal detector whilst wearing a baseball cap and was told by a security guard in an abrupt manner to remove it and have it checked out by him. I felt I had no dignity, I accepted it in the name of security. What I want to ask is are the muslim women wearing veils subject to this when they travel? do they accept it and are the Indian men told to take off their turbans?
Im not sure about males but as far as I am aware, women MUST unveil themselves to security/customs staff to ensure identity etc. However, they are given the option to go to a fitting room type enclosure to do this to ensure their beliefs are upheld as much as possible.
I thought the original complaint that Jack Straw made was that he didn`t want to have a conversation with muslim women who spoke with a veil up to their face, on that point I thought he had a valid case, also out of good manners they should converse with other people without it. I don`t think he should persue it any further than that.
ach, they don't do it to be rude. It would be nice if more people took up the wearing of masks, especially some of the people I have to look at on the bus in the morning.
Im no racist but I sometimes wonder why immigrants come over to our country and complain that we don't change everything to suit them. If they don't like it, sod off out of our country.
If we visit muslim countries we are expected to dress accordingly and abide by their rules. They should do likewise, particuarly when choosing to live here, and abide by our rules.
