I was hoping to help Hymie.

The law (the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016, Schedule 9, Part 7, Paragraph 11) says this about box junctions:
"...a person must not cause a vehicle to enter the box junction so that the vehicle has to stop within the box junction due to the presence of stationary vehicles."
and
Highway Rue 174 reads:-
174
Box junctions: These have criss-cross yellow lines painted on the road. You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right. At signalled roundabouts you MUST NOT enter the box unless you can cross over it completely without stopping.
Law TSRGD regs 10(1) & 29(2)
There is a slight inconsistency between the two, in that rule 174 permits a queue of vehicles to be stationary (in the junction box) waiting to turn right (prevented by oncoming traffic); whereas the wording of NJ’s post only permits one vehicle in the junction box (waiting to turn right).
Many thousands of motorists break the rule (for entering box junctions) everyday, but their actions do not result in them being stationary in the junction box, due to the continuing traffic flow. But should the traffic flow stop for some reason, they may find themselves stationary within the junction box.
thank you Andie - are you commenting as a person or a mod? I get so confused sometimes. They seem so alike.
the content of the outrageous post was that the yellow box event was computer generated. So rather than appeal to the retired police officer, it wd be better to follow the internal appeal path. Something that no one else has suggested. (new)
