Are snakes worth the trouble?

A news report says that snakes kill 7000 people annually in Bangladesh alone (probably 10s of thousands worldwide).

It seems their main function ecologically is in controlling certain types of vermin but does that really justify their murderous behaviour towards humans?

Ireland seems to manage very well without them.

Should we exterminate all venomous snakes?

Toorak, it seems like Australia has more than its fair share ovenomous animals.

I handled a snake at Edinburgh Zoo, it wasn't venomous, some sort of Python.  It was really powerful.

I would hate to handle a snake - I imagine they are very slimy, but I could be wrong.

i wish I didn't  have a fear of spiders. I know it is completely irrational but I can't help it. I think t comes from turning on a tap once to get a drink of water and a spider fell out into my glass. ☹️

I think that we are pre-programmed or hardwired to dislike or fear snakes and spiders.

After my Spider crunching moggie, Frankie, died I had a Spider who lived in my bedroom.  I named him Elvis.

Toorak, I used to worry that the ancient volcano at Kinnoull Hill in Perth would explode.

I seem to have spent my life worrying about things that never happened.  It was worse when I had a Manic episode.

Funny thing was I had one hand near its "neck" and the other about halfway along it - but after a few seconds I realised the one hand was now a couple of feet along it: it had slithered through my hands without my even noticing.

I read that the most poisonous of snakes are sea snakes but as they are quite docile & spread out in the ocean not many people get bitten. Sometimes if a fisherman gets one in his net...

Some friends had Burmese python - it was huge. It used to sit with them curled up watching TV. They fed it with live rats. They eventually gave it to a zoo.

It's not just snakes - I think about quite a lot things - don't you?

Yes I do think about a lot of things, venomous or not.

But I don't want to eradicate them all.

If I did, drug dealing scum bags would be the top of my annihilate now list.

Snakes, spiders and other venomous creatures, yeah, well, leave them alone to live their own life.

I used to keep garter snakes. Snakes are not slimy. Not the most cuddly pet but interesting.

I agree with 1ozzy live and let live. He lives in a country with a lot of venomous creatures.

Mankind is the worst predator and there are too many of them.

He also lives in a prosperous country which is well supplied with antivenin & medical facilities to administer it. The people of Bangladesh are not (yet) so lucky!
