//Rishi Sunak has intervened in a deepening row between Kemi Badenoch and David Tennant over LGBTQ+ rights, appearing to brand the actor “the problem”.

The Doctor Who star said he wished the women and equalities minister would “shut up” and suggested he hoped for a world in which she “doesn’t exist anymore”, while she fired back that he was a “bigot”.

The prime minister waded in on the spat on Wednesday morning, writing on X, formerly Twitter: “Freedom of speech is the most powerful feature of our democracy. If you’re calling for women to shut up and wishing they didn’t exist, you are the problem.”//

Why should Kemi Badenoch and other women standing up for women's rights shut up?   I used to like David Tennant.

He's in the entertainment industry so the odds were pretty high that he'd be woke. Experience suggests it tends to go together.

His unconsidered words were simply foolish, and given his earlier speech on love & tolerance, were hypocritical to boot. One hopes he regrets his comments now. He probably should've kept them for his mates down the pub, not use them in his capacity as celeb to preach to the world his mistaken view, and attack Kemi.

That stated, Kemi made a good, spirited response, which will probably earn her a few brownie points come the GE.

Kemi Badenoch is the Minister for Women and Equalities and I believe David Tennant was referring only to her but muddied the waters a wee bit by calling her "Women and Equal Minister."

"Women and Equalities Minister"...

Why are people making excuses for what he said.  He is a reasonable intelligent person and, to me, knew full well what he was saying and who it was aimed at.

telling someone to shut up is freedom of speech. trying to force them to do so is another matter.

i agree with him. i think politicians who whip up hatred against vulnerable minorities deserve a bit of rudeness.

I'm still not clear what is involved in "transing" a child.

TTT - In the first instance, pre-pubescent children are given Puberty Blockers. This means that they will never go through puberty as their natal sex and is irreversible.

Once you have done that to your child, you have irreparably harmed them.

You have Transed them.

Why do people take heed of what actors & sportspeople have to say about politics?- they have no more authority than The Man on the Clapham Omnibus, in fact probably less, as they all live in a specialist's insular bubble, far divorced from his world.

The problem with actors and sportspeople is they see themselves as important, mainly because that's how they're treated by the general public. Manufactures are to be blamed for a lot of it, Walkers crisps for example have just renamed their salt and vinegar crisps as salt and lineker. I'm looking into it to see if I can sue them under the trade description act. :o)

15:55, that's horrific, how can that be legal? Anyone who'd do that should not be allowed near children and the doctors that give out the drugs should be struck off. Unbelievable how stupid people can be.

TTT - Clinics and institutions with vested interests in Transing children, and turning them into people who will be dependent on medication for life, are slowly having their accreditations removed.

It is a shame that it is too late for so many children and young adults....

But, as can be seen above, some seem to approve TTT.

erm i would take jackthehat's penny dreadful tales with a pinch of salt. some people are trans and some know about it when they are very young. the rest really is between the parents, the young person, and their doctor.

it is far more normal to love your children (actually love them as they are) than it is to obsess in these deranged terms about cartoonish parodies of trans people. what exactly was badenoch expecting? If a politician comes out and insists that your child is an ideology or a project then the correct response is to tell them to shut up.

Puberty blockers are reversible. they are used to treat children who experience puberty very early. there is certainly a debate about whether they should be given outside of those circumstances but i would calmly suggest that is best resolved among medics.

also you cannot get puberty blockers under the age of 16

Well, you would, wouldn't you?

Kemi Badenoch stands for women's rights and like most of us is tired of seeing these sacrificed on the altar of Trans-rights or  vain-glorious projects by those suffering Transhausen-by-proxy.

Short-term puberty-blockers for Precocious puberty are currently used, in the very short-term and to delay not prevent puberty.

They are not reversible.

The Cass Report has made it very difficult to get them for those under 16, but there is a ver scary and unsavoury black-market to ensure they can be found for those determined enough.

I agree with Khandro - these "celebs" opinions are no more valid than anyone else's. The publicity they get is ludicrous.

you could say his career is over, winning a dust magnet for lgbt is not a accolade, but an anchor to sink his acting career.
