The thread below got me thinking to something I used to ask my R.E. teacher when I was trying to be cocky at school. We have proof that dinosaurs existed. If god created the world in 7 days, where did the dinosaurs come in?

I don't think you're meant to take the 7 days bit literally, but The Creation is in the correct order, so someone knew what they were on about................
Apparently God put them there to trip up all the stupid naive people who didn't believe the seven days story and insisted on believing fanciful nonsense like evolution. D'oh - and you got me too, God. Damn you and your practical jokes.

This is only a problem if you think that God created the world in 7 days.

The 'problem' with fossils started along with Baron Cuvier around 1820-1830. When Darwin came along - who was Christian by the way - most of the UK stopped believing in the bible's literal truth.

I read that it is different in parts of the USA

God created the world in 6 days, he rested on the 7th day and whilst he was sipping is cup of tea those pesky dino's snuck onto the planet.

It was His own doing though....

"Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds; livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.
Genesis 1:24

This question reminds me of a true story when I was a child...

I don't know if anyone remembers that one of the Dairies gave out Dinosaur stickers? Well, the Jews in the Borough of Barnet complained that their milk, which was marked as Kosher, was coming with packs of dinosaur stickers.

The Jewish calendar celebrates the age of the universe by counting up the ages of people mentioned in the Old Testament and thereby dating creation to some 5,800 years ago. Dinosaur fossils are older than this, and therefore could be taken to "disprove" the Old Testament if it is taken literally.

As a result of the large number of complaints, the Jewish Authorities threatened to remove their seal of approval from that particular Dairy unless the Dinosaur stickers were stopped for everyone, not just Jewish customers.

There are an awful lot of problems for anybody who believes the Bible is literally true, dinosaurs are probably the least of them.

Unlike the Koran or some other "holy books" the Bible does not even claim to have come from a single source. Over the years it has been compiled, recompiled translated and edited. Books of the bible that were considerred dubious such as the Book of Judith were thrown out and became part of the apocrypha and in more recent years a Gospel was even rediscovered from an early Christian Group called Gnostics - The Gospell of Thomas.

So it's hard to see the literal truth surviving such a process - but maybe just maybe the hand of God guided the process and the literal truth was maintained. That would mean that there would be no inconsitancies in the four gospels wouldn't it?

Well don't take my word for it type "gospel inconsistancies" into your favorite search engine and have a read.

II Corinthians 12:2 "I knew a man in Christ... such an one caught up to the third heaven."
Revelation 21:1 "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first [former] heaven and the first [former] earth were passed away..."

Biblical research of profound significance indicates the future existence of a third heaven and earth. If the Bible is accurate and the integrity of the original inspiration can be trusted, then further research indicates we currently inhabit the second heaven and earth.
Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning God created the [first] heaven and the earth."
Revelation 12:7,9 "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And the great dragon was cast out... into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was [became] without form, and void..."

Since the first earth was reduced to desolation and ruin, God began setting things back in order when he said, Let there be light. God started the planet's repopulation because the life that once roamed it was destroyed. Using our most significant scientific achievements to date, with only fossil remains from the first earth, the life we enjoy studying today is the life God created on the second earth.
Genesis 1:21,28 "And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth... And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth..."
