I have traditionally been in favour of capital punishment though I sometimes waver. Those against it often do impress me with their reasoning and I get persuaded that maybe the state should never execute it's own citizens. Then a case like this comes along and I start to think that sometimes there are such depraved humans that it's a case of disposal of a pathogen rather than execution. No doubt AH will tell me that it's emotive and we should ignore the circumstances. Your Thoughts......

I believe there's an old saying about justice. 'It is better that 10 guilty walk free than one innocent is convicted.'
Some here would turn that on its head.
Sad, or what? //
They would not only have one innocent convicted, they would have him executed as well, which is the entire thrust of this debate.
And that's not sad, it's horrifying.
naomi - // Andy Hughes, I hope you're not including me among your 'they'. //
Clearly not, as you could deduce from our earlier exchanges.
//Your accusation is irrational and unjustified and smacks of nothing but self-righteous pomposity. //
It's not an 'accusation', I don;t believe it is irrational, or unjustified, and I am sorry if you feel it smacks of nothing but self-righteous pomposity.
I would refer you to my response to Dave - please don't be rude to me, I am not being rude to you.
I have already stated that I accept the diffference in our respective positions on this subject, but I am not offensive in my responses to your view, even though it is diametrically opposed to mine.
naomi - // It is an accusation - a sweeping statement which concludes 'that's not sad - it's horrifying'. If you want an example of 'rude' - that's rude. //
Clearly we differ on the definition of a 'sweeping statement' - I think it's absolutely directed, and not 'sweeping' in the slighteest.
And my point is directed at any number of posters on here, I have not singled one out to be offensive to.
That's your perogative, and a better example of being rude.
