I'm so delighted tonight as the contestants are saying. 'may we' instead of 'can we'. Doesn't often happen.

This reminds me of the great Tesco debate

"Six items or less"

"Six items or fewer"

There are big problems in this world.

This is not one of them.

^"fewer" for things that can be counted. "less" for stuff that cannot be counted. Simple.

And their threat to use less bags in future.

I may well note when 'can' is used instead of 'may', but that doesn't faze me. What does is, "Me and {someone else} did something", instead of, "{someone else} and I did something". It just sounds so thick to me.

My pet gripe is ax instead of ask

Would you say, "less than £10" or "fewer than £10"?

Less because it is a single amount, the size of which can change. Fewer is possible if you wanted to stress 10 lots of £1 coins.

At least we had the now-obligatory 'unusual' contestant on University Challenge

If they have the spectacular knowledge then that's all that matters.

Alas, 'they' did not

they seem to have more missing vowels round time, anyone else notice?

It all comes down to the missing vowels round - always does.  You can score very little in the first two rounds and win as long as you're good on the final round.  Weakness of the programme (apart from VCM's excruciating opening monologue).

OG, the amount is countable, it's ten pound.
